3. Enter the name and description of the segmentation.

The system will automatically generate the system name and external ID. However, you can also enter your own values.

* The **segmentation name** will be used in the project interface.
* The **segmentation system name** will be used to filter customers in the [Template Engine.](/campaigns/message-template-engine/what-is-the-message-template-engine)
* The **segmentation external ID** will be used in API methods.

<Note>
  Segmentation cannot be launched without at least one created segment.
</Note>

5. Click **Launch**:

<Note>
  Once you’ve launched a segmentation, you’ll no longer be able to edit the system name or external ID.
</Note>

Please note that you can only use segmentations that have been launched. Drafts cannot be used in filters, promotions, messages, etc.

Click **Save and exit** to exit without launching the segmentation.

***

You can add customers into segmentation

* [Using filters](/segments/how-to-add-customers-into-a-static-segment-using-ui)
* By importing files (this applies to customers who are already in the database)
* Through flows (Use the *"Include customer in segment"* step within your automated flows)

***

<Note>
  A customer **cannot belong to multiple segments** within the same segmentation. When added to Segment B, they are automatically removed from Segment A.
</Note>
