When a customer doesn’t redeem a gift card before its expiration date, the card moves to an Expired status. In Maestra, you can extend an expired card for one more year from the current date, bringing it back to an Activated status.

Overview

Gift cards in Maestra have a defined validity period. Once that period ends, the card automatically becomes Expired and can no longer be used at checkout. Rather than issuing a new card, you can extend the existing one directly from the gift card pool. The new expiration date is always calculated from the date the extension is performed, not from the original expiration date.

Steps to extend a gift card

Open the gift card pool

Go to Campaigns → Loyalty → Gift Card Pool, then click Go to all gift cards to see the complete list of cards.

Find the card

Search for the specific card by its number.

Open the card for editing

Click the edit icon to the right of the card number.

Extend the card

Select Extend for 1 year.
Once the action completes, the page refreshes and the card status changes to Activated. The new expiration date is set to one year from the current date.

Example

  • Original expiration date: April 4, 2026
  • Date the extension is performed: April 6, 2026
  • New expiration date: April 6, 2027
The extension recalculates validity based on when the action is performed, not on the original expiration date. This means that if you extend a card a few days after it expired, the customer gets a full additional year from that day forward.
Extending a gift card does not change its balance. Only the validity period is updated. The card keeps its original number and any remaining funds.
